I think that is the start of a type of rot Sandra. I have seen it here
in Fremont. I think it is caused by small cracks starting in the leaf
from the cool/warm/cool cycles that we have been getting this year. The
rapid warming causes a growth spurt and the leaf, hardened by the cool
weather, cracks a little. Warm moist conditions and presto [that's a
slang word meaning something magically 
appears ;) ] you have rot.

I would strip off the leaf, douse with clorox solution, and watch closely.
