Re: OT/"deep sixing"


Around there, in *very* rural Southern New York State where I grew up,
the family was carpenters and farmers (brother got the sailing gene)
with lots of people dying and being buried "six feet under" to prevent
the spread of diseases and quell the stench. To "deep six" something was
to bury it thoroughly and finally and without resurecting it, even for
discussion.

But shall I tell you about the 1901 flood that wiped out the town and
brought the bodies to the surface.. no??? I LUV the old stories and
those that are STILL being created down there.
