In "my" opinion coarse sand works great. Just a little makes cement. At
least a third of the soil has to be sand, 8" soil needs 2 1/2" sand.
In my area builders sand is the finest " smallest grains " it would not
work.
1/3 clay + 1/3 coarse sand + 1/3 compost = great soil
