Re: AB's for Zone 7

Rosalie,
I am not sure how much rain you get but, down here in our DRY zone 7 it
seems we can grow all of the 1/4 breds, most of the 1/2's and some of the
3/4's. We put in an "aril-bred bed" last year. Raised it about 10" and filled
it with a mix of 50% garden soil, 35% sand and 15% amendments (compost and
alfalfa pellets). This was to encourage good drainage and seems to be working
very well.
Then we planted 30 new to us AB's in there and stood back. NONE of these
AB's went dormant over the winter, they have grown like weeds and it looks like
we will have bloom on about 75% of them which is well above normal for us on
first year AB's. They are doing very well and many of them look like 2 year old
clumps already.
    Hope this helps some.
