Yes, Betty, I recall that we had a rash of snap-offs two or three years ago
east of the Mississippi.  I would agree with you that it's temperature
changes that cause it.  Yesterday, the temperature here dropped 40 degrees
during the day-- from the high 70s to the mid 30s.  This morning opened with
extremely high winds, and I found a bloomstalk snapped off.  Then,  as I was
weeding, I barely brushed against another, and it snapped off.
