particularly the SDBs. When there is a cold spell (snap) a few days later
I
will see a lot of these colour splotches on the flowers. I have also noted
that the arils respond accordinly and seem to do this with less
provocation,
that is a milder drop in temperature. This drop in temperature can be a
cold
night after a warm day. I also tend to ignore this when evaluating
seedlings.
The early ones to bloom have more of this, but then they also have more of
the
temperature drops. It could have something to do with a change in growth
rate
or a teperature provoked change to pigmentation.

Have you noticed this tendency in pure arils, as well as in arilbreds? If
so, would you give me some examples of splotch-prone arils?
I have sought the trait in ancestral species, in an attempt to understand
it but here the arils themselves are not prone to splotch. Not even the
ones with patterns similar to those of the splotch-prone arilbreds. That's
why I've come to believe that some type of genetic interaction is involved.

Is there any chance that you could post a photo of some of the seedligs
that
you reffered to that has both types of color patches?

I believe there are already some on my website -- but there are so many
pictures up now that I'll have to check to be sure. BEADWORK is the only
one of the type I have introduced.

I havn't grown too many pure arils, mostly arilbred, and that with mixed
success. I havn't really noticed the color splotcing on them, but I'll keep an
eye open. I checked your website (enjoyed it) but there wasn't a photo of
Beadwork and I didn't see any others that wouldfit the description.
