CULT: shriveling stalks

I'm experiencing a new (for me) phenomenon. LUMALITE is blooming nicely this year, but several stalks, after the terminal bud has bloomed, have suddenly fallen over. Upon examination, I find that each stalk is shriveled at the base. No rot, just a pinching of the stalk up to a couple of inches above the base. LUMALITE didn't have this problem last year. I had several seed pods on it. Anyone have any idea what's happening?
