<<First of all let me say I am very new to the Iris community, and likely to
make mistakes. However with that said I am very unhappy with a local
supplier of Historic Iris listed in ROOTS. It is important to me to have
the correct name for the iris, no name and you might as well toss it.>>
Mr. Drisko, I regret that you have experienced frustration with some of the
rhizomes you obtained last year. Without making excuses, I will observe that
this sort of mix-up is not uncommon in the world of irises and all people who
purchase irises of any age are interested in receiving what they ordered. In
short, it is not an experience unique to those ordering historic irises.
Neither, I am sorry to say, is the business of poor communication with
customers.
That said, I will note that the listing on the Commercial Sources Page of
ROOTS is a paid advertisement like the ads in the AIS Bulletin, and does not
constitute an endorsement of the nurseries, or a warranty of their product,
or their attention to detail at digging time, by the Historic Iris
Preservation Society.
I have several times in the past asked for feedback on this list from those
doing business with the nurseries listed in ROOTS. Response has been scant
but of those responding, virtually all have expressed satisfaction with their
transactions. I have heard grumbling about one nursery in the time I have
held this position. That nursery is in another part of the country than I
believe you are. Are you not in California?
I invite you to send me particulars of your situation privately. I cannot
intervene, but I do have full discretion in deciding to which nursery I shall
send people who request information from this office, and I will open a file
that, should it grow with accounts of such experiences similar to yours,
could well be the basis of a denial of listing privileges in ROOTS.
