Re:AIS:Convention-winning Iris

I hate to say it, but I missed Vegas Weekend.

Later on while putting the pictures onto the computer from my camera, I saw
it.

Bold and beautiful yellow iris in the Clark garden so that "Y'all" could see
it, and I missed it. I blame Hooker for this...he should have dragged us all
over to look at it...lol.

However, other irises that gathered my attention were:

Local Color (Keppel) did great in every garden
Penny Lane (Lauer) did great in every garden - won the out of region award.
Anything Goes (Hager) couldn't fault this one for anything. There was not
even scorch or leaf spot on this one. Just perfect. I dragged several
judges over to look at it and they couldn't fault it either in any garden.
Dragged an old timer over and he said the color was "rough", but that is not
a fault, it is a preference. I love the color pattern in this one.
Seedling HM-102 (Fan) was five feet tall at the Arboretum, and good size
elsewhere. The whitest ground on a plic that I have ever seen, flawless
branching, vigorous.
Tangled Web (Keppel) Fantastic in most gardens
Seedling 93-1-B (Hughes) The best looking Space Ager I have EVER seen!
Ostentatious (Ghio) Very different and striking. Did well in most gardens
Textronics (Burseen) Fabulous flower, had to order it along with Penny Lane
and Local Color.

Some of these I will be posting pics of on iris-photos.

How could all of you missed Vegas Weekend? The color is great--can be seen
from the other side of the garden--the form is great--nicely ruffled--it
holds up well in the wind--and after having seen it in three different area
gardens on three different days--I did vote for it-- ( I was on a blue bus)
and it is tops on my list of favorites--
I am working on the order now and it also tops the list there--
Did not realize that Texas had wind all the time--it is really easy to see
how much substance the flower has--with the temp about 80 and the wind
blowing all the time--later in the day--some Iris falls were like tissue
paper--and some were as good as ever--so the ones with the most substance
are on my list of 'winners'--
Carryl in western Montana zone 3 where the snow drove us inside today--hate
to work in the garden when it is snowing!
