SPEC: I.pseudacorus siblings

James, Iris Pseudacorus thrives just about everywhere. In some areas it
has even been classed as invasive. It is a member of the Laevigatae
group of irises and the other species in the group are:-

ensata
laevigata
virginica
virginica shrevei
versicolor
maackii

Some beautiful hyrids between the species have been developed by people
like Tony Huber. They are mostly strong growing, large plants. There
are also some very nice variations of pseudacorus itself, whites for
example. One such breeder is Katherine Steele who lives in North
Carolina, I believe. Seeds from her white form flowered in two years
here and were the equivalent of a three year plant.

All species grow well in my garden, except maackii, which may not exist
in N. Am.

Ian, in Ottawa where we are just about to announce grants of $100K
towards the next phase of studies for a new botanic garden.
