Re: CULT: borer?


I suppose my iris could be the victim of deer as they are in an area that
deer have been know to visit.  I guess that I should have noted that the
stalk are cut but not separated.  That is, they are still in their natural
orientation, just cut and left in place.  I would think that deer would at
eat the cut part, or at least bite it and then drop the buds.  I find this
very perplexing because there is no evidence of a caterpillar, no entry
hole, and the buds don't look wilted.  It is as if someone took a razor and
carefully sliced them.  I haven't seems any evidence of deer in the
surrounding beds and none of their usual victims like the azalea have been
eaten.
