Friends, I need to do a reality check. It is still April isn't it? We have
a Siberian iris, SALEM WITCH, in bloom today and SHAKER'S PRAYER will be open
tomorrow!
We still have SDB's blooming along with IB's, BB's, MTB's and a few TB's. I
do not recall this ever happening here. We also have a lovely clump of i.
lactea that has been blooming since April 6th and it still has buds --
wonderful!
We have blooms on a couple of iris we acquired last year that are quite
striking: Gary Sides' OCTOBER SPLENDOR, a clear pink border bearded
(rebloomer) with a darker beard, and Lauer's TB, CLASSIC SUEDE which is such
a rich blend of shades of brown -- hard to describe but beautiful. Both have
stalks that are too short but I am sure that is because they were just
planted last fall. There are stalks on many of our first year clumps and it
is so much fun seeing bloom for the first time. What a great time of the
year, even if it is strange!
