HYB: OK, now for the pollen...

OK, y'all, this is question 101, but...

I have always been under the impression that the pollen is on
the beards -- on the top of them, that is, so that when a bug
climbs in it gets pollen on its front end and then bumps the
stamen. Stamen I have NO trouble recognizing.

Am I correct? The only reason I ask is that by stroking
a beard (an IRIS beard :-)) I do not get "visible" (yellow)
pollen on my finger, as I do with so many other species.
If I am correct, is the concentration of pollen greatest
at some point along the beard? Do you yank out a few "hairs"
and smoosh them onto the stamen?
