Dana,
When it is really dry and windy here the pollen becomes very brittle.  I
just hold it in my mouth and breath on it for a little bit.  Works well.  By
the way, even if you use brittle, dry pollen on a wet stigmatic lip it will
still work, just gently peal back the lip a little bit and make sure the dry
pollen falls in the right spot.  Have to deal with it here every year.
