CULT: borer egg locations

Hello All,

As the snow is FINALLY beginning to recede from the edges of my iris
beds, I intend to cut off any and all overwintered foliage to help keep
borer hatch to a minimum. My questions are these - does anyone know *for
sure* exactly where and on what borer moths lay their eggs? Do they lay
*only* on dead iris leaves, or do they lay on living iris leaves as well?
Do they lay on other plants near the irises? How far off the ground do
they lay (do I need to cut overwintered iris foliage off at the rz, or
can I cut it 1-2" above ground level and be assured of getting all the
eggs?)? Are borer eggs visible, and if so, what do they look like?

I appreciate any info or insights any of you may be able to provide.

Laurie
