TB:Grand Metallic

Hardiness,in this Grand Metallic received from a very respected iris garden the first of July, was planted and before November the rhizome was dead not any sign of establishing itself. Why?another one of those just not able to readjust to the diff.soil,ph,etc.
the November weather here (zone5/6) is still not that cold this year if I recall,so according to the registrations Edith Wolford x Edith Wolford (am I reading this right?)looks like maybe some hybridizer seedling numbers? -this can be confusing for a novice.
anyone care to comment, would love some input.

where snow has melted and the iris reticulata, danfordiae, specie J.S.Dijt, are just lovely to behold this early spring.
