Just curious, what would be the affect on other flowering plants in the same
beds and other types of Iris?

I'd be careful doing this. Ammonium sulfate solution
will be acidic. The Sutton's irises may be able to handle
it because their base soil pH is high (10, if I remember),
but most garden soils are around 6. Adding a large amount
of ammonium sulfate would drop it even more.
