Hello All,
We don't get as hot as Arizona ,but hot enough (90's and 100's occaisonally. ) Someone from Arizona ( Kathy Chilton I think) told me they planted all of their new rhizomes in pots and placed them in the shade . This worked like a CHARM for us , only we leave them in filtered shade under a tree until we see they are established and growing. We use a WONDERFUL brand of potting soil for everything with great results. Whitney Farms - Uncle Malcolms Potting Soil. EVERYTHING goes into it first. The plants make great root growth quickly. We are able to plant the rhizome in the garden after only 3 weeks in the pot, if we have the soil ready. Even rhizomes that are doing nothing in the soil are pulled up (Usually no roots when pulled up ,even after months in soil.) and placed in this potting soil. Never fails , they start to grow!!!
We were very excited about spring until today , SNOW AGAIN , 3 weeks from trek!!!
OH WELL
