CULT: Best SDB Season Ever

The proof is in the pudding. I have always heard that SDB's don't
perform well in the South because of lack of sustained cold weather.

We had a winter! Not really all that cold but it was constant from
early November until about ten days ago. No mood swings in the
temperatures like 70's and 80's in January and February and then back
down. 30's to 50's for five months. Brrr for the Deep South where I
live.

The results of the cold - the best SDB bloom ever and at registered
heights, too. I used to think hybridizers made up those numbers
because most blooms couldn't get out of the fans here. I stand
corrected!

Some of the stars:

ALADDIN'S FLAME - Messick - '93 The flame is blue! At least ten
stalks in the clump all at the same height. Really, a good clumper.

COCOA PINK - Niswonger - '97 Khaki pink. Nothing short of
outstanding. Fuzzy, caterpillar blue beard tipped white, but
tangerine hidden in the throat.

LINE DANCE - Nisweonger - '99 Different, but somewhat narrow.
Prolific and disappointing.

MRS. NATE RUDOLPH - Rudolph, an old trooper, but holding its own.

PRIVILEGED CHARACTER - Black - '90 - Luminata plic, all-time great
that performs to registered height no matter what

TATTLER - Keppel - '96 - Very similar to Aladdin's Flame but with a
blue dart of color under the blue beard on yellow.

VIOLET LULU - WARBURTON - '86 - What a clump!

Now, if I buy more of these as I am tempted to do, will we return to
a normal winter next year?
