CULT: Large leaves

Some observations of grow in my iris beds is revealing some very large
leaves. I am referring to width as the are only 12"to 15" long. Mainly the
center leaf in the fan is the largest.
Size; TB's to 3" IB's 2 1/2" and seedlings from a BB cross 3 1/2". This is
happening in about a third of my beaded iris not counting SDB's. Eight or
ten of the seedlings from the BB cross ( should bloom this year) have most
of the leaves about 3". The rest are 1 1/2" to 2"
I know this not typical in my bed but How wide is normal?
