I had used alfalfa sporadically over the last few years after
joining this list, and since so many people praised it, I have gotten
into it big time in some areas of the garden. In the areas where it
has been used extensively (maybe overused), here are the results:
1. Overly tall stalks with gigantic flowers.
2. Green scum or moldy soil.
3. The worst case of leaf spot I have ever had.
4. In the beds with no alfalfa, none of the above.
I think where the alfalfa pellets are tilled in, you don't get
leaf spot. I am going to stop using it as a top dressing because I
think that is the source of the leaf spot and the moldy scum.
