HYB: reluctant pollen production


Walter, I wonder if covering some of your PURGATORY plants with Reemay
(and leaving them covered unless it gets unreasonably hot out) starting
a couple of months before they would normally bloom would help protect
the developing flower & pollen primordia enough to give you more
frequent viable pollen?

I had never thought of doing this myself before reading your post, but
have never seen pollen on any of my DUSKY CHALLENGER blooms, even tho it
blooms well and flowers always look normal, and produces pollen for
growers in more 'normal' gardens.  I think I will try this next year.
