I started a new bed in front of the house a couple years
ago, which gets more sun, and the normal clay was heavily
loaded with leaf mulch, 5-10-5, and alfalfa. Most of the
"weak sisters" were moved here. Mixed results - RUSTIC
DANCE rotted away, same as it was doing in the back bed.
KILT LILT managed to bloom last year, but the few increase
are so small and spindly this year, no way it will stay.
BEWILDERBEAST keeps growing, but not blooming. CRAFTY LADY
just kinda sits there - doesn't grow, doesn't bloom. Some
others have grown and increased well, better than in the
old beds.
I find that I have less and less patience for poor
growers/bloomers, no matter how pretty they are (usually
based on a catalog photo, 'cause you never see them bloom
for you...) Probably out this year because of this are BUSY
SIGNAL, FEATURE ATTRACTION, and IMPRESSIONIST, even though
I love the flower on all of them.
