Not only
did Fred dig the rhizome then and there but he also gave us the bloom stalk.
So you can see that it is not only in WA and OR where this procedure is
practiced and obviously is nothing new.

Dave, that was in Joyzee and it sounded like you got additional plant material
with the bloomstalk.
I would not advise selling bloomstalk only and expecting success in the lower South. Again, some irises do not increase from the bloomstalk, and you might be selling somebody something that will die - at least where I live. To me the bloomstalk is the 'old momma,' and success in planting old mommas is very limited. Ever see anybody cut up old rootless mommas, bury them, and get a clump???? If a person has to have the iris while it is in bloom, give them the bloomstalk and a little of the surrounding clump to be on the safe side.
