Re: AIS:Blooms

Hi everybody,
I found iris like the ones I didn't know what variety they were at a local nursery. They are siberians. I bought two new ones with names. I haven't planted them quite yet. We actually got a nice rain last night after high winds. I guess the little gas station 15 miles south of here looks like it was hit by a tornado even though none were reported. It seems it is all over the highway this morning.

I got my first SDB bloom this morning. It is an old fashioned variety that i have had for 12 years and have long since lost the name of. The colors are washed out and pale but it is always welcome as the first to bloom and is very vigorous quickly spreading into drifts even in the worst soil or in one place I dropped a rhizome on white clay. I plan on getting a good picture of it this year. It blooms a lot but over a very short period of time and I missed it last year.

Just had to share my excitement over the iris season starting here. I have been looking forward to it all year.

Our season is usually a week behind Memphis. I should miss my first week of
bloom season while at the Convention. My early irises, mostly plicatas, are
showing stalks. Real early ones, like Jessie's Song, are nearly knee high.
Strangely enough, we are close to normal. Whatever that is. But then my
bloom is usually almost over before other local people have their peak
season. (Too many people living around here! )

Can't speak for Memphis with all these high temperatures. ??????
