I think I remember Irisborer talking about this and tried to do a
search in the Mallorn Archives. I found a follow-up but not the
original post, so there has been discussion here on the 'splitting
theory' to advance propagation.
Also discussed was the burying of old mother rhizomes. I tried that
and in my extremely wet climate, none sprouted. So, I am thinking
that both theories might work better in a dry climate.
I have never been THAT desperate for increase so I'll just divide
annually and hope for as much increase as I can get that way.
