She seems kinda handy with that bushwhacker tool. :)
I have used one of those to divide shrubs with dense
rootballs, like spirea and potentilla. It gets my vote.

Actually, one of those newer type bill-hook weed & brush clearing do
dads works well for that kind of tough dividing job. The kind that has
a long handle, with a wide, curved blade on the end shaped sort of like
the topknot on Woody Woodpecker (?). Put a good edge on it and it cuts
like a knife, plus you can get good leverage with the handle, or whack
at it if you have good aim.
