Francelle: Seems to me some judges ONLY care about branching and bud count.
Some even "prefer" tailored form. I'm not into bunchy stalks, and I love
good branching, but 5-7 buds of a drop-dead gorgeous flower beats 14
well-branched buds on a plain lightly ruffled lavender in my book. Want 14
buds? Grow 2 stalks of a vigorous and gorgeous one. Not all flowers have
everything; if so, we could stop hybridizing today.

Keep going. Many excellent iris do not have great bud count. Not often
you'll see more than three buds open at once anyway, so for that limited
time your flower is prettier than theirs. Theirs just stays around longer.

  got planted last weekend.
