Thanks for telling us where you live, Carol.  Please inclued that information when you sign each message for those of us who have short memories.
Bearded irises are usually planted in mid-summer in the North.  They should have six weeks to get their roots established before the ground gets too cold.  Irises planted in the spring can't be expected to bloom the same year.  They sometimes do, but not usually.

  bloom? My iris patch gets plenty of sun. I might add
  that it does look like a few more of them are getting
  ready to develop buds, but just haven't yet.
  Thanks for any help you can give me-the books just
  aren't much help.
