Re: seedling, pigments (from photos)


Donald, Griff, have you soaked any of these red blooms in alcohol to see
which pigments are there?

I soaked a very pink & red bicolor the other day and was surprised to
find no pink oil soluble pigment in the standards at all.  No yellow
either, as I recall, but I want to try it again if it will ever quit
raining and let a few more buds open.  All the pink was alcohol soluble
(anthocyanin, I guess that means), but surprisingly pink in solution.

Our discussions about anthocyanin pinks last winter has gotten me
interested in looking at what's blooming to see what anthocyanin pink
looks like.  Combine that with some of those little granular thingies
(ATF? UPS? some acronym I can't think of at the moment), & it might
really start to look red.
