This kind of wretched "spring" weather is why I started pollen daubing in the first place, so I'm <trying> to keep a positive attitude and view this as a seedling selection "opportunity". :-(
For those of you attending the Oklahoma City Convention, if they have damage too, it will be a "wonderful" opportunity to find some really tough modern cultivars that can take this kind of weather and bounce back with more or less normal bloom.
As the season progresses, I look forward to hearing from everybody about cultivars that perform well this year in spite of the weather.
In the mean time, it hasn't gotten cold enough here to kill things (other than tender spring weeds that made the mistake of coming up early), but looks like it will the next three nights.
So I'm out digging and potting a few early seedlings with stalks up to bring indoors, will try to cover a couple of rows of seedlings that I was hoping to see maiden bloom on this year with a double layer of Reemay (non-woven fabric plant bed covers) and hope for the best.
I used to avoid all the early bloomers because they always seemed to get frozen out here, but Sharon McAllister and Donald Eaves reminded me that sometimes the early ones manage to bloom <before> the last killing freeze, so it's always good to have a mix. I've enjoyed all your beautiful arilbred "pre-freeze" bloom photos, Donald.
Condolences to all of us, & here's hoping we all have a lot of late bloom survive.
