The sun it hot again. First time. Now Dignity Dancer & Cafe Bleu do not
look good in the pots. Scalded. Others look better.
I was watching the two youngest granddaughters this early afternoon while my
son mowed my two acres. When he came in, I pointed out the pot of seedlings
I'd been fretting over. He said, "Really? That looks much better than the
ones in the garden!" Scared me half to death. Rushed out to the garden.
I've still not done a complete survey, but what he described as "gone" was
the Vanishing Act seedlings and others at that end of that bed. These were
all planted in 2006 and I expected more heavy damage in the 3 new beds, 2 being
seedlings. I don't expect to lose all of anything, but my selection will be
limited. I have a few extra seedlings tucked in the pots where I didn't
have room to plant all.
As might be expected from past postings, the Lunar Whitewash X Romantic
Evening cross was all planted and most look awful today. However, there are a
couple of seedlings, with no increase, that look like nothing happened! One
group of Sweet Addiction babies have almost no damage. Sitting at one end of
the LW X RE cross.
The bad damage is in the northeast most corner of the garden. As you
progress more to the south and west, the damage rapidly becomes less. Now I'm
talking foliar damage, not bloom stalks. This is the spot where the sun it
earliest. The bottom half of sections 2 & 3 have little obvious damage.
From previous experience, I know the bloom is gone in most. The only thing
I hold hope for is the very latest bloomers.
Newly germinated seedlings have been uncovered. I'll know more in a couple
of days but they look better (on the whole) than I expected. Nothing appears
to be a total loss.
