HYB: Clarence's Pollen; was IB: Hybridizing Intermediates

Wow, Betty, that's great. For sure I'm using old information and haven't
been keeping up. The last thing I remember was Clarence Mahan saying that
Clarence the iris was pod fertile and Suky the iris was pollen fertile. It
was a great joke back about ten years ago.

I looked in the Iris Register and found three irises registered &/or
introduced with Clarence as the pollen parent: Lloyd's Gate of Henna, Don
Spoon's Silent Wings, and your Serenity Returns. And, there were four where
Clarence is the pod parent.

Do you find the pollen difficult or easy to work with?

Suky as pod parent: Sterling Innerst's "Over and Over" and Glenn
Stoneking-Jones' "Rough and Ready." All the others were as pollen parent. I
have Suky too but it might not bloom this year.

Clarence the iris is about to open its terminal flower, even tho it feels a
bit crisp, but the other buds feel moister, so I'll plan to save pollen from
all the flowers and see what happens. At least I can use it on Protocol if
nothing else decides to bloom, and freeze the rest.

Thanks for the info! -- Barb
