Hello Linda, and all.
I have experienced the 4 falls phenomenon here on the Canadian prairies
on a regular basis. It seems to occur when our springs are abnormally
cold and wet with frequent freeze/thaw cycles. 2002 and 2005 were the
worst years with half a dozen blooming that way. I don't fertilize the
iris other than with an alfalfa tea so I can't comment about that aspect.
