Re: HYB: ? inheritance of blue beards?

I have been working on getting dark blue beards on yellow TB plants. the dark blue beards are definatly rececessive, particularly in TBs. It is relatively easy to get blue beards on yellow and on white in SDB, but we never get the very dark blue, nearly black that you can get with TB. If I recall correctly, it would seem to be from the aphylla species, at least the near black is.. To get the blue on white, yellow or pink, you also need a repressor of petal anthocyanin. To get the dark blue you may need several dosages of anthocyanin enhancement plus several dosages of "I" . This last is a bit od speculation.

Thanks John.

One of our favorite lurkers sent me a note saying blue beards are fully
recessive, probabilities of getting blue are low unless both parents
have blue beards.

Betty, cross a blue beard with something from a blue bearded parent, and
either grow lots of seedlings or keep your fingers crossed.

<While I am sure a lot of hybridizers work with beards, Keith Keppel
said in his presentation in the TB Forum last night that he has a
particular interest in beards. You might ask him.
