Strange season here too.
Very poor showing on the few medians I grow. FANTASTIC BLUE and BOTTLED
SUNSHINE, both <super> irises here most years, only have a stalk or two
in good sized clumps. Both just opening yesterday and today - they were
open almost a month ago ~40 miles north of here (Lenoir City area) up on
top of a ridge where it doesn't stay as cold.
No TBs showing color yet, no stalks showing yet on my two reference
points for late bloom - SULTRY MOOD and DUSKY CHALLENGER. It's been
great weather for hybridizing here the past week if anything were blooming!
From what I can see so far, branching seems to be absent this year. Or
else it's going to be a <lot> higher off the ground than usual.
At this rate, bloom season here is going to be very late.
I heard rumor there was concern about a freeze in Salem the same time it
hit your place, Mike. I hope not!
:-(
