Diatomacious Earth and Slugs:
The pool filter DE is acid treated so that the tiny spikes (spicules ?)
are gone and therefore does not act as a pesticide (or slug repellant?).
The Ag grade sold as a soil amendment is untreated and is your best bet
in the slug wars. I'll repeat the warning: AVOID BREATHING THE DUST! My
favorite weapon against slugs is the midnight raid with a flashlight. It
has the added benefit of giving you one last look at your irises for the day!
Fragrant iris:
Madame Chereau - smells like grape flavored candy
Weather in Texas:
Two weeks ago at this time it was sleeting. Todays high is expected to
be a record tying 92 degs. Yesterday's high was 92 also, didn't come
close to the record 100 degs. Boy howdy, do I love Texas!
Bloom report (Warning, the following could be depressing for persons in
Zones 3 to 6!):
TBs, Louisianas, species and soon to be Siberians and spurias. Too many
to name individually.
