Sometimes I am a little slow in the take up, but it just dawned on me that several
times in the past week I have read a posting that said something to the effect "such
and such is too big to type into email" or the like.
It happens that I have a pretty good flatbed scanner, and some OCR (Optical
Character Recognition) software that translates the tiny bit map representing a
character into the code that can be used by Word Processors. For instance I just
scanned in a newspaper article on dealing with heavy clay soils. The real key is the
quality of the trppy in the original document, but I generally have good success.
I may not be able to contribute much to the discussions on hybridizing, but I can,
and am willing to, scan in documents (say the list of growers in the back of the AIS
newsletter everyone has been tallking about). I could then post the result as email
or attach it as an original file to a posting.
You could snail mail (or FAX) an article to me and have it electronically reasonably
quickly. If FAX is used it would probably have to be sent "Fine" quality as opposed
to "Standard." We would of course need to be sensitive to copyright issues.
An email warning would be appreciated, but my FAX is almost always on. Anybody want
to try something???
