Water hyacinth can't be shipped interstate because it is such a pest. It
runs rampent, clogs water ways and is a general pain. I had heard that in
one huge lake in south america it has closed the out flow of a lake. I have
it in my garden pond and every year have to yank all but a couple of the
plants out or I can't even see the water. I am past due at this point and
the pond looks more like a Water hyacinth marsh than a pond. I like the
flower though so I keep it. My pond is a mess actually. I was given some JI
by a neighbor that was contaminated with duck weed so Now I have this scum
like stuff floating on the water. (when you can see the water because of the
Water hyacinth) I grow my JI right in the pond> I dug it so that the liner
extended under the shore area for a ways. I couldn't grow JI otherwise
because my garden is to large to care for plants that need so much water. I
have to irrigate and a bog works well.
