I have to jump in on this one.
I believe that Iris Shows are one of the BEST ways to get people working
together and helping the newer iris grower. Maybe I'm naive, but I think of
OUR shows as happy events... and most of us who have been showing for awhile
don't care too much about the ribbons... but care more about seeing that the
new folk win a few! We prepare everyone carefully by holding workshops prior
to the show on "how to show an iris" and I really believe a judged show is a
very positive experience. I do have to say that I think it's healthy to use
outside judges (2 of the 3 on a panel) as much as possible... and to KEEP IT
LIGHT!
We have Exhibitions in WNY (this year it will be for medians) and we have
shows... each serves a purpose. If you're dissatisfied with the way your
shows are run... then maybe you should do something about it.
Our creed and mantra in WNY is.... "this is supposed to be fun, this is
supposed to be fun"
right Carolyn?
