With the changing of species family names and the re-naming of some genus and
species names, and naming of new species, a species does NOT have to be in the
AIS checklist to receive an AIS award. It has to be the requirements of the
AIS "Handbook for Judges and Show Officials", Chapter C-15, Exhibition Judging
Species Irises. The first senence states: "For species, a validly published
botanical binomial is considered the equivalent of a registered name." This
covers the ones not in AIS CheckLists. Old AIS Checklists certainly could not
reflect new changes
in binomial nomenclature and new checklists may not either, as Sharon pointed
out.

If they do show up and they meet the above requirements, then they're covered!
