Clarence and Ellen are having a debate about North and South...

HA, Clarence! I'm in a feisty rotten mood today, brought on by too much
snow, rain, gray, etc., and I can't let that last comment stand without
picking some nits. : (
I was at that Syracuse meeting and know that most of those irises came from
Dana Borglums garden near Geneva. He is blessed with a milder micro-climate
than either Syracuse or dear old Newfield have.
That same year, IMMORTALITY did not rebloom for me. And this year, a 2 yr.
old clump of MOTHER EARTH attempted rebloom in my garden and turned to a gray
mold-covered rotten sponge over the winter.
I don't mean to dampen spirits completely here, but I think rebloomers will
have to be chosen extremely careful, if at all, for zones 4 and under--and if
your particular microclimate is more severe than your zone--double beware!
Furthermore, I think overly enthusiastic articles in general gardening
magazines are going to lead the public to great disappointment-- and
disillusionment about irises in general.
Ah, now I feel better! Nothing like picking some nits to banish the blues!
: ) See?
