I was on a panel with two very experienced and polite judges. That made
things easier. We judged everything but the TBs.
During the initial walkthrough, I spotted more misnamed oor misclassed
iris than any of the others. This was the second time I've seen a
non-pink Vanity.

Rapidly seeing the perfection of the Louisiana which became
best of show was satisfying.
I was also pleasantly surprised at my lack of discomfort in judging
the arrangements (done together by both panels). Going in I felt
woefully inadequate in that area, despite having had a _superb_
judges' training session given by Carolyn Hawkins.

Mostly, I was just pleased that there were enough stalks to make
a decent show. Many of us had more bloom a month ago than we do
now, with peak bloom still at least a couple weeks off.
> Did you get to evaluate seedlings?
Yes. Mostly arilbreds, with a few TBs. I agreed with the majority
on the best of each type.

Convincing the other two to upgrade a third-place ribbon they had
agreed on for one iris by pointing out that it was at least as good
in every respect as the one next to it, which we had given a second to.

What I meant was that if an iris does not have a requirement for chilling
(or for a period with short days) it can rebloom in the fall. If an iris
does not require a certain level of warmth (or long days) it can rebloom
in the very early spring. If both of these requirements are missing (and
perhaps others), it can bloom whenever a rhizome gets big enough.
The presence/absence of these requirements is very cultivar-dependent,
and (fortunately) is pretty well inheritable.
