re: varieties and spring bloom

amy - <Out of approximately 60 TBs newly planted, I have perhaps
six that have obvious buds. Would the others have buds
if they were going to bloom this year?>

not necessarily - in my experience some of these TBs are smarter than others
and will wait until the weather really settles down before budding. this
seems especially true of the late bloomers (ML or L in catalogs). i avoid
anything that blooms early (E or VE and most of the EMs) because of the frost
pocket i am in.

if you have the patience to type it all up for me, i would really like to
know what your 60 varieties are that you tried this year (send by private
email) and especially post to the list the 6 that actually bloom this year.
i will be happy to do the same for you if you are interested. and anybody
else out there in the dreadful sudden southern freeze zone. sounds like
SECRET MELODY is one i want to try.
