Re: Iris Society in Florida

There was an affiliate in Florida until l993. However because of the spread
between
cities it was difficult for many to travel. Most of our members are retirees
who are
not tending gardens there. However in the last few years a number of new
members
in the Tallahassee area and Panama City area have shown interest. It takes
l0 AIS
members to form an affiliate and I will go on record and state that I will be
glad to
come to any part of Florida and help you get started with set-up, program
planning,
etc. and plenty of encouragement. So if the interest is there we can get
rolling.

Many have the idea that iris will not grow in Florida. However one can
provide conditions
in which many types will thrive. Species, Louisianas, and medians are grown
there
now without too much effort.

The closest affiliate to you now would be Milledgeville, Ga., near Macon, Ga.
 The
ball as they say is now in your corner, Robert.
