It would be a good idea to do this as many people are very interested in
the parentage of new introductions and it helps those that are breeding
with your plant to know the genetic history of the variety. Re the Dykes
Medal; you never know, it could happen. But for sure, if you never try you
won't ever win! Give it a shot!

My advice to people about getting started in show has always been; don't
get all hung up on the technicalities of doing it. Just go out to the garden
and cut a couple of nice stalks of varieties you know the names of and bring
them to the show.
The iris "veterans" will help you out once you get there. Just say you're
new and ask for a little guidance/help. You'll be surprised at all
the helpful hints that you get and you'll be part of your first show!
Just get there early enough that you are not rushed.
