Aussie Iris'

Sorry about the last message thats what happens when you hit send before you

Virginia asked if we have any wild iris' in Australia. We dont have any Iris
but we do have some Iridacea. We have about 17 species of Patersonia which
grow all over the country. Most aren't used much in gardens as the flowers
are small and short lived and like many Australian natives they dont
appreciate the tender loving care of a gardener. I have one from Tasmania
growing in a rockery, it has lots of green growth but no flowers, I dont
thik it gets enough sunshine.

Linda asked where I am in relation to Victoria and Barry Blyths Iris'.
Canberra is about 8 hours from Melbourne and I would imagine it would take
another couple of hours to reach Tempo Two (Barrys Nursery) from there. I do
however get most of my bearded iris from Barry by mail order. Most of my
cultivars are ones that he has introduced and the colours are lovely. I've
also been really pleased with the quality of service provided to mail order
customers, and the catalogue has lots of colour pictures (I've noticed this
is VERY important to everyone).

On the subject of Latin (which has been very entertaining) as I work in a
scientific research facility we often have this problem generally the way
the most senior scientist pronounces a word wins. If the are a dead heat in
knowledge/stubborness then they both ignore each others pronunciation.

bye for now
