The traditional story from _The World of Irises_ is that "Germanica" is
a 44-chromosome sterile hybrid (like our modern IBs). However, the current
practice among the species gurus is to put together a variety of different
plants under "Iris germanica", including a number of fertile 48-chromosome
tetraploids. Proceed with caution when using this name. No refunds.
