Pollen Viability

It's hard to say what the typical life-span of pollen is in storage -- there are
just too many variables.

But I've found it's easy to spot pollen that's no longer viable. I just examine
a few grains under a _low- power_ microscope. If most of the grains look
rounded (something like seeds) I use it. If most look like chaff (the remnants
of exploded pollen grains) I discard it.
