Gunnar, sometimes I water with a very weak vinegar solution to add acid. 
 This is mainly for the Japanese iris and also hydrangas.  But maybe wait 
for the iris experts to say something about this before you try it.  
There's no point with your 4 inches of snow just now. Question, why 
inches instead of mm?? And azaleas and rhodos of course.  ginny
